He was the writer of quite a few best selling novels such as Rosemary's baby, the Stepford wives and The boys from Brazil.A not so well known book of his called "This Perfect Day" is an absolute masterpiece, and if you're a nerd or a programmer then go and hunt up a copy somewhere.
